Four Monastery System. (Chaturashram)

In ancient India, from the ever lasting sanatan yuga to till islamic India started, we had strong social structure using this Four  Monastery System or (Chatur Ashrama) system. This system divides a man's life in four different stages. Stages of life building starts from the age of 12 years. before this age all the children are taken as GOD's blessings and taken care by parents in home.

Brahmacharya Ashrama, Grihastha Ashrama, Vanaprastha Ashrama, Sanyas Ashram.

Brahmacharya Ashrama
Brahmacharya Ashrama (Celibacy Monastery) :- In this phase of life from age of 12 to 26 every men ware to join in Gurukul and take education of every applicable aspects of life, in different age stages. In first stage the mind and its abilities, interests of the child are examined by gurus. Then they divide students according to the abilities and interest of their life goals and give them the Verna (JATI) according to that.

A child showing signs of becoming a good priest , a teacher, a philosopher or a good scientist are given the Verna of Brahman (that means they are eligible to get the goal of becoming a brahman),

A child have courage and takes part in helping others if difficult and crisis situations, a true motivator and leader are given the Verna of Kshatriya (that means they are eligible to get the goal of becoming a Kshatriya or a warrior).

A child who is good in managing resources and ethical in giving and taking amenities, calculative in nature are given Verna of Vaishya ( that means they are eligible to get the goal of becoming a vaishya or businessman, a entrepreneur).

A child who is good in giving physical services, refreshment services, a child who do not have  hatred to anything in life, who is truly devoted to social service, who is truly selfless. but do not have intelligence and courage like others are kept in this Verna called Skudra ( that means they are eligible to get the goal of becoming a Skudra, or serviceman).

Once the goal is set the basic education is given in same manner to everyone. but after that phase of education they are separated to give specialized education in their vernas.

Though if any student gather any quality of other verna and interest in it. the reassessment and change of verna is always open.

in next post we will se the applicability of Brahmacharya Ashrama in our modern world and its constrains.
